Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Material Handler.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

The Material Handler position performs a combination of stocking, cycle counting, data verification, and picking and issuing material from various material crib locations to manufacturing production floors.  Must be able to perform in a dynamic high paced manufacturing environment and manage changing priorities as assigned by manufacturing lead.  Work tasks must be completed in a timely manner and the quality of the work must be accurate.   

 

Pick and package small electronic components and hardware material for delivery to manufacturing production floor.

Stock material using a random stocking process.

Count material by hand, electronic scale, and/or tape and reel counter.

Must have experience with computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds. 

Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations, punctuate properly, spell correctly and transcribe accurately.

Candidates must be willing to work over 40 hours per week, as needed, and be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time.

Possesses necessary computer skills to locate and manage all required data and may prepare metrics
Actively develops continuous improvement strategies
Assists in training and mentoring and participates in team building
May act as a team lead for group activities, cross-functional or Supply Chain communication or customer inquiries
Sets and works toward team and schedule goals and may prioritize work for team members as job requires
Performs specialized project tasks & assignments of a more complex nature


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of material planning, control and inventory methodology and applies it to a wide range of tasks
Considerable organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Considerable communication skills, both verbal and written including presentation skills
Considerable customer service skills
Considerable collaboration skills
Considerable knowledge of the enterprise software tools and associated data
Ability to exhibit considerable adaptability and flexibility
Considerable ability to recognize and meet schedule priorities
Considerable knowledge of program close-out activities
Considerable knowledge of Government Customer Property Control
Ability to track, expedite, and pick material shortages to the manufacturing floor
Ability to complete work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognize the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice
Ability to perform job tasks without direct supervision
Ability to readily handle unexpected demands and adapt to new situations
Work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
May provide direction to other employees with similar duties
