Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and is required plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field plus a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

 The Distinguished Member of Technical Staff:

 

  • Applies advanced principles of engineering and management to solve problems involving the development of complex technology
  • Oversees and or manages design and development processes as they relate to the engineering of products utilizing principles and technology of physics, mathematics, engineering, and related physical sciences
  • Utilizes computer technology to optimize all phases of work to include requirements management, modeling and simulation, risk analysis and formal trade study tools
  • May conduct research to identify leading edge and breakaway technologies
  • Researches and reports important shifts in technological landscape & implications to the company
  • Actively exposes high level risks & communicates the risk trade space & mitigation strategies to team
  • Collaborates with management across the company on research and development relevant to long-term objectives
  • Able to anticipate needs and concerns of the technical community and bring about resolutions
  • Uses influence within technical community to mitigate issues including the authoring of trade studies and position papers
  • Influences the development of technical opportunities leading to new business
  • Takes immediate & decisive action in dealing with technical & performance issues
  • Directs development of technical strategies and teaming strategies across divisions
  • Leads large proposals with identification of cross business unit strengths and technical shortcoming
  • Provides proposal teaming recommendation to shore up any shortcomings for optimum win probabilities
  • Drives the development of business opportunities that can lead to new LOB or Division creation

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate technology, process, and skill needs
  • Demonstrates proactive leadership and has name recognition throughout both the company and customer organizations
  • Creates an environment in which impact of technology on the business is clearly recognized

Active Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
