Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network, Systems Engineering or a related technical field is required plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field plus a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is REQUIRED at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Tactical Networks Chief  Engineer.  The position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Applies advanced principles of engineering and management to solve problems involving the development of complex technology
  • Oversees and or manages design and development processes as they relate to the engineering of products utilizing principles and technology of physics, mathematics, engineering, and related physical sciences
  • Utilizes computer technology to optimize all phases of work to include requirements management, modeling and simulation, risk analysis and formal trade study tools
  • May conduct research to identify leading edge and breakaway technologies
  • Researches and reports important shifts in technological landscape & implications to the company
  • Actively exposes high level risks & communicates the risk trade space & mitigation strategies to team
  • Collaborates with management across the company on research and development relevant to long-term objectives
  • Able to anticipate needs and concerns of the technical community and bring about resolutions
  • Uses influence within technical community to mitigate issues including the authoring of trade studies and position papers
  • Influences the development of technical opportunities leading to new business
  • Takes immediate & decisive action in dealing with technical & performance issues
  • Directs development of technical strategies and teaming strategies across divisions
  • Leads large proposals with identification of cross business unit strengths and technical shortcoming
  • Provides proposal teaming recommendation to shore up any shortcomings for optimum win probabilities
  • Drives the development of business opportunities that can lead to new LOB or Division creation 


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Serving as a key stakeholder in various technical reviews such as Engineering Status Reviews, and key program milestone reviews including but not limited to System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, etc.
  • Acting as a liaison between engineering teams and program management, as well as, the liaison between Ground Systems Engineering and other Lines of Business Engineering organizations
  • Maintaining technical leadership to be able to discuss concepts and solutions with technical staff and customers in both formal and informal environments
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and products that can be leveraged as part of our product offerings
  • Evolving concepts or emerging solutions, providing technical viewpoint and expert opinion on new opportunities
  • Identification of new IRAD activities that enable and enhance new solutions for the Ground Systems customers
  • Supporting technical customer engagements with consistent messaging and visibility of the full strength of GDMS technology and skills

The roles and responsibilities also include:

  • Creating and presenting technical content briefings to customers and GDMS Management
  • Creating and managing technical roadmaps
  • Assisting in the development of strategies to tackle new opportunities within and outside the current customer base
  • Identifying technical skills which may be needed in the future and working with engineering management to identify training opportunities for personal and team skills enhancements
  • Championing the introduction of new technologies, processes and/or tools to engineering teams

 

 

The preferred candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in driving the development of new innovative technologies by researching and developing discriminating technologies
  • Able to effectively serve as an advocate for technical solutions and concepts with customer/end users
