Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.
Department of Defense Secret security clearance (must be TS eligible) is required at time of hire. General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Radar Systems Chief Engineer to join our team in our Fairfax, VA location. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the defining and maintaining the current and future system architecture of a critical US Navy radar systems. This position provides an opportunity to architect and lead the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to build and further advance GDMS software systems and applications.
Within GDMS, Chief Engineers lead the research, design and development of systems hardware, software, software applications and/or tools for designated programs and subprograms. The Chief Engineers work directly with the GDMS program team and the program’s customer program office and technical design agent to ensure that the system design meets the required program specifications and goals. The Chief Engineer responsibilities also include business development support in the form of proposal responses, white papers, and technology roadmap development.

Candidates need to have the balanced technical background to be a decision maker on program technical issues, understand the business aspects, and have the ability to be a strategic / competitive thinker exhibiting an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Candidates must have at least 10 years of demonstrated experience in Navy Combat System design with a strong preference in the radar systems domain. Candidates should also have demonstrated proficiency in system development using COTS processing, storage, software, and networking products.
