Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Data Engineering Manager in its Information Technology (IT) organization. This manager will be responsible for the Data Integration Engineering and Database Administration teams.  This role reports directly to the Senior Product Manager for Predictive Information and will work across the GDMS organization, interfacing with system administrators, end-users, analysts, developers, engineers, project managers, and all levels of management.

Representative duties and tasks:

  • Manage a team of 8 -12 data integration and database management professionals dedicated to enabling a GDMS data strategy
  • Develop and implement employee growth and development plans that energize the team
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements, and verify that business requirements are correctly translated into technical requirements 
  • Manage to budget and performance targets
  • Continually look for new processes and technologies that make the team more effective and efficient
  • Expand usage and capabilities of the data integration/middleware platforms
  • Drive database disaster recovery initiatives
  • Helps define and refine development and administration methodology that ensure efforts are successfully managed
  • Ensure deployed solutions are maintained and re-evaluated for continual improvement
  • Ensures that solutions meet development best practices and enforces standards.  
  • Acts as first point of escalation for critical issues to ensure that service interruptions are mitigated as quickly as possible.
  • Drives Sox and Cyber compliance
  • Guide data inventory initiatives
  • Identify and evaluate new data management technologies
  • Integrate technical functionality (e.g. scalability, security, performance, data recovery, reliability, etc.)
  • Implement measures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility
  • Some hands on work

 

Required Skills:

  • A leader with 5+ years of experience managing Data Integration and Database Administration teams
  • A strong and diverse database technology background that includes Oracle, SQLServer, NoSql, Hadoop and other open source platforms
  • The ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff
  • Experience designing and developing application integration solutions using a service bus or other MOM technologies, preferably TIBCO BusinessWorks
  • Experience with XML, XSD, JSON, Web-Services (SOAP and REST) and deployment of HTTPS/SSL solutions, JMS, Database design and tuning, LDAP (Active Directory), Java
  • Experience with data virtualization technologies, preferably Denodo
  • A strong understanding of Database design and warehousing concepts
  • Ability to operate in a fast changing environment
  • A can do attitude, highly collaborative, a strong sense of ownership
  • Quality and detail oriented
  • The ability to work with all levels of the organization
