Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.


Candidates should demonstrate sophisticated research and analysis skills, as well as an ability to further evolve the General Dynamics Mission Systems' business. Strategic Marketing/Competitive Intelligence Analysts must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, or a related specialty or the equivalent, and eight to ten years of related experience.  Applicants with a Master’s degree and six to eight years of professional experience also qualify.

  • Understanding of federal marketplace competitive landscape (Fed/Civ, intelligence and defense markets)
  • At a minimum, applicant must have relevant marketing analytics tools and computer skills (ex. excellent skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Proven ability in forecasting or modeling
  • Demonstrated skills in gathering data from multiple, often disparate, sources and synthesizing raw data into meaningful reports and presentations
  • Demonstrated analytical ability –“connecting the dots” with partial or ambiguous information
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with leaders at the executive level
  • Experience with the business development capture process
  • Excels in “search” capabilities - specializes in locating “hard to find” information strong financial analysis abilities (10-Ks, 10-Qs etc.) – able to develop financial models and tools

A DoD Secret clearance is preferred at the time of hire. Candidates must  be able to obtain a Secret security clearance if not cleared. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. Citizenship is required. 

This position requires 25% travel to conferences and trade-shows outside of the Washington DC Metro Area.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Strategic Product Marketing/Competitive Intelligence Analyst. The position is responsible for characterizing the cybersecurity marketplace, including market trends, competitor positioning, and acquisition practices across the federal Government.  The position will facilitate the Cyber Systems product introduction and executive level market and competitive analysis.  This information will support the strategy planning process, opportunity identification and qualification, and product launch of new products and legacy product enhancement investments.  This individual will also work with and direct outside market consulting engagements to gain the market understanding and help make strategic decisions for the business.  This role will entail a significant analytical component and require a passion for, and experience, working in a data driven marketing organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use publicly available data, as well as subscription services, analyze competitors and estimate revenue in market areas of interest to Cyber Systems
  • Provide well detailed market research to other organizations in the business
  • Assist in gathering market intelligence from different resources
  • Size the assigned markets and provide market forecasts for the strategic plan and product launch efforts
  • Attend conference and tradeshows to collect intelligence
  • Coordinate and execute trade show intelligence gathering
  • Identify market trends in terms of mission, technology, buying behaviors and business practices.
  • Interact and coordinate with various Business Development, and Business Area Management seeking both their input and to provide timely market data
  • Develop customer profiles that capture leadership traits, organizational buying habits and preferred suppliers
  • Work with proposal teams to provide competitive landscape and positioning
  • Present draft market characterization to leadership and work to build a consensus for a final characterization
  • Drive adoption and use of market analytics and analytics tools
